There's No Time Like the Past

Katie was away this weekend to the Hale Farm Civil War Reenactment. When we went to pick her up we had Bob Szabo take a wet plate image of Katie and Asa. I'm pleased with how it turned out, Asa wasn't unhappy he was actually smiling and kicking his legs so he's a bit blurred. I think it looks "real", do you? The image of Katie and Asa looks like it could be Aleks and I 20 years ago, how eerie is that?

  1. WOW! what a lovely wetplate of your daughter and son! She looks wonderful and they both look like they came from the 1860s! great job on the outfits! My family will be Lord willing getting our photo done in the fall at our first event in October. We have wanted a real wetplate for a long time!

  2. That is a beautiful photograph (is that the right word?)! What a special memory to hold on to. I read "Dressed for the Photographer" and most of the little ones were a bit blurry. I wouldn't know these were your modern children if I saw it in a line up of period pictures!

  4. I love it! Wow, that is a lovely photograph. They both look perfect! My babies would NOT hold still at ALL for photos when they were Asa's age, but we *hope* to get a family plate done this September. This one is gorgeous. What a family treasure it will be!

  5. Szabo has to be the best there is at what he does. How fortunate for you to be able to have one of your children! And yes, it looks 'real'...all his work does. At first I thought you simply posted an original period image!

    It's absolutely lovely!

  9. Well, I must say, I thought this was an actual old photo...never would have thought these were your children! What a special keepsake for your family :-)

  10. I agree, I would assume it was an original photo. So many repro photos are filled with anachronisms, but both your and your son are deal on! Getting babies and little ones to hold still for photos must have been a real challenge, but you did a great job with your little boy. His slightly blurred arm just add to the period look. Kudos!
